On the off chance that you haven’t noticed my crazily enthusiastic posts on any and every social media platform, I wanted to let y’all know: I have a really good reason to use the word ‘y’all’ now. I mean, I used it a lot before, but really didn’t have the justification. I’ve never been to the south, except for Florida, and I mean--does that even really count?
(Okay, okay, obviously it does, but sheesh guys, let me have this moment, will you?)
So I have a real reason to use the word ‘y’all’ now. Because I’m going to Texas. Austin, to be specific.
Why, you ask?
Because my screenplay is a SEMIFINALIST in the Austin Film Festival SCREENWRITING COMPETITION!!! (Cue my enthused screaming)
The film, Of Elephants & Animals, is a feature length screenplay in the ‘horror’ genre of the contest.
Here's the logline:
...As a traumatized recluse prepares to testify at her father’s parole hearing, she can’t seem to escape the overeager ‘help’ of her estranged best friend -- or the attacks of her own animalistic imagination as they break into reality.
It’s a script that’s very personal to me for some very particular reasons that I’ll go into perhaps in another post. Suffice it to say, I am extremely honored and beyond thrilled to be included in the incredible stack of writers that make up this year’s semifinalists. Thank you, AFF, and thank you, Vertigo Entertainment!
See you in Austin!
